Summary

This historic Sicilian country-house near Salemi is located in the centre of the Belice valley The property is well-known for its production of excellent olive oil which is extracted from the sought after Nocellara and Biancolilla olives. The town of Salemi is not only famous for its historical centre but also for its former Mayor Vittorio Sgarbi, a famous Italian art critic and once Under Secretary of State. The property has carefully preserved its Sicilian, aristocratic, 19th century charm and when you walk along the path lined by boxwood hedge, you'll breathe in its rich past. The location of the villa is ideal, with everything you could wish for just a stone's throw away. Historical towns, nature reserves, islands, archaeological sites, the beaches along the Southern coast, vineyards and excellent restaurants are all nearby for your enjoyment.

Property details

This property consists of 2 separate houses that are immersed in almost 15000 m² of olive trees, fruit trees, vineyard and orchards. A dreamy, antique, Italian garden rich in Mediterranean plants and trees sits to the front of the residence and in the large courtyard at the main entrance you'll find plenty of seating in the shade of the Mulberry tree and Bougainvillea. The gorgeous swimming pool to the East has stunning views of the vineyard beyond. The larger "Bouganville" of the two houses is 180sq mts and spreads over 2 floors. Once inside, you'll find the tastefully furnished living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen and a bathroom on the ground floor while on the first floor, 4 bedrooms including the master bedroom with ensuite, a second double room, a triple as well as a small twin bedroom. There is also a second bathroom on this floor and one of the bedrooms opens to a balcony with views to the surrounding countryside. The second house "Glicine" is 160sq mts and also spreads over 2 floors. On the ground floor is the kitchen, off which lie the living and dining rooms which both connect onto the garden. The sunny kitchen is typically Sicilian and the original tiles, marble benches and wood-oven fit happily alongside modern kitchen appliances. Step through the glass door into the courtyard where there's a dining table and benches open to the garden. A staircase in the living rooms leads up to the first floor where there are 3 bedrooms in total, including a double room and two twins which can be converted into double rooms if required. All the bedrooms have views of the garden. There are two bathrooms on this floor as well - one has a tub for a relaxing soak!

The property is located in the centre of the Belice Valley in South Western Sicily and is ideally positioned for seeing the many sights to be found in this part of the island. The house is just 2.5 km from the fascinating town of Salemi with its quaint cobbled streets and majestic Norman Castle. You can visit the Archaeological museum, the Resurgence museum, the sacred heart and the Mafia museum in the former Jesuit college. The interesting archeological site of Mokarta with its rich historical library can also be found in Salemi. You might also enjoy a visit to the Jewish District called Rabato. However, it is for its Bread Festas that perhaps Salemi is best-known today. These festas involve the baking of highly decorative loaves of bread to celebrate the Festa of St Joseph. Apart from Salemi, the property is an easy drive to many other places of interest: the archaeological sites of Selinunte and Segesta, the seaside village of Castellamare del Golfo, the Baglio and the tuna fishery of Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, the sandy beach of San Vito lo Capo, the medieval town of Erice, the Salt mines of Trapani and Paceco, the island of Mozia, the historic vineyards of Marsala, the Egadi Islands (daily hydoroils from Trapani) and the beaches and nature reserves along the coast that stretch from Portopalo di Menfi to the white cliffs of Scala dei Turchi.
