Summary

La Commenda is an old manor farm nestled in an ancient olive grove in the countryside near Caltagirone. A charming and fascinating “shabby chic” style house, restored with great attention to detail and fitted with all the mod cons. The warm and generous owners are full of excellent ideas and will take good care of you-they might even share some of their home-made aromatic teas made with garden herbs. The house is immersed in extensive grounds and is ideal for a relaxing holiday. The sunsets are a dream too! A perfect place for visiting South Eastern Sicily.

Property details

To one side of the façade, just off the bedrooms, there's an outdoor living area with plenty of comfy seating and to the other side a shady dining area with table for 12. Opposite the outdoor lounge area there's a gorgeous big pool and solarium, with three king-sized thatched gazebos and sunbeds which are the perfect spot for whiling away your afternoons. Inside the house there's an airy beamed living room with fireplace and dining table for 8 adjoining the sunny bright kitchen that looks out to the countryside. A master bedroom is next to the kitchen, with independent access from the garden, where there're also two raised single beds reached via some steps. These two bedrooms have a communal bathroom. The three bedrooms on the other side of the house all have ensuite bathrooms, pool views and can be accessed from the garden. One of these bedrooms has a king sized sofa bed as well.

Area

Area

The house is ideally located for anyone wanting a relaxing country holiday and for having a look round the local area. It is located near the Bosco di Santo Pietro Nature Reserve where there are some great walking tracks through the park. Caltagirone, just a few kilometres from the house, is a lovely town with with some great palaces, churches and monuments but is particularly famous for its superb pottery. The streets are lined with small shops selling precious Sicilian hand painted majolica: plates, bowls, vases, nativity scenes, furnishings, tiles, holy water stoups and sculptures. You'll undoubtedly love the colorful heads (human faces) that they've been making in all shapes and sizes for centuries and are unique to Sicily. There are also excellent patisseries, restaurants and taverns. We also recommend visiting the nearby towns of Vizzini and Monterosso Almo, the UNESCO towns of Palazzolo Acreide and Militello in Val di Catania. It's easy to reach other interesting towns too, such as Piazza Armerina with the Villa Romana del Casale and Aidone, where you can see the statue of the Morgantina Venus in the archaelogical museum. It's an easy drive to Modica, Noto, Ispica and Ragusa Ibla, the Natural Park of Mount Etna, Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve, the archaeological park in Pantalica and the Vendicari Nature Reserve. The nearest beaches are: Punta Secca and Marina di Ragusa.
