Reviews

Roberto June 2016

Summary

This quirky house so steeped in history will enfold you in coolness and thoroughly nurture your senses. The furniture and the decorative pottery and objects are set against the simple finishes and the original arched walls and ceilings of the home. A strikingly individual bathroom has been carved out of the cave and integrated into the house and the owmer's flair for combining the thrill of the past with modern comforts is on show in every nook and cranny. You'll be talking about this place for years to come.

Property details

This intriguing little ground-floor house was originally part of a XIX century grand palace. As you enter, the open-plan living space is immediately to the left, where there is a well-equipped kitchen, dining table for 4 and a double fold-out sofa for extra guests. Beneath the stone arches, just beyond the living area is the double bed and off here lies the unique bathroom carved into the rock cave. The ambience feels both retro and timeless and wil undoubtedly leave you in awe.

The town of Modica, which is a UNESCO World heritage site, is considered the symbol of Sicilian baroque. Modica however, has much more to offer than its famous Baroque palaces with their intricate facades, monuments and spectacular churches. It's a unique place-a noble, un-hurried yet vibrant town that the traveller can't help falling in love with. It's a visual treat and its narrow alleys are a hub of activity with night clubs and famous restaurants. It's also a paradise for chocolate devotees which is still produced here in the same way as the ancient Aztecs made it in the 16th century. Modica is ideally located in the middle of the Noto Valley, so it’s an ideal base for visiting the other Baroque cities of Noto, Ispica, Ragusa Ibla and Scicli. You can’t miss a trip to the nature reserves of Vendicari nature reserve where there are some wonderful beaches and the lakes of Cavagrande. A trip to this part of the island wouldn't be complete without seeing the naturalist-archaeological site of Pantalica and the surrounding unspoilt beaches of this stretch of the South-Eastern Sicilian coast.
