Very nice stay in Villa Ombre di Tufo...wonderful location, stunning sea view from the garden and house...We loved Favignana, thanks to Hitsicily for the 5 star service! July 2015
The villa occupies a stunnningly panoramic position on the island of Favignana which lies just 7 kilometres off the coast of Trapani in Western Sicily. The island with its crystal clear waters and exceptionally safe swimming has always been a getaway for the residents of the mainland but in recent years has become a popular destintation for foreign visitors as well. The house is only 3 kilometres from the village on the south-western part of the island and sits opposite the tiny island of Preveto. Its position on the sea-front, the swimming pool immersed in the ornate Mediterranean garden and the genuinely unspoilt wild environment create an appealing blend of ingredients for the perfect seaside holiday.
The villa has been completely refurbished using a volcanic rock known as "tuff" reflecting its Sicilian traditions and creating the unique effect that is common to these island houses. Lawned gardens and Mediterranean shrubs provide a fitting backdrop to the fabulous swimming pool (5x8 mts). The single-storey house offers a cosy and charming interior for comfortable beach living. The spacious living room has loads of glorious windows looking onto the garden and there is a double fold-out sofa bed for extra guests. To one side of the living room lies the dining room and the well-equipped kitchen and to the other side, the night area where there are two double bedrooms and a twin room with double bunks, as well as a family bathroom. In the garden there is a barbecue, a porch area with outdoor table, a toilet, a laundry, and plenty of shady spots for enjoying the breathtaking views of the shimmering sea.
The island of Favignana boasts pure white beaches, rocky inlets, small coves and spectacular caves. It is the perfect destination for anyone who loves the Mediterranean Sea as it just doesn't get any better! Apart from the sandy beaches at Cala Azzurra, Lido Burrone and the Calamoni, there are also some spectacular inlets and bays located near Punta Lunga, Preveto, Faraglioni and Punta Sottile that have perfect snorkelling and sunsets. One of these is Cala Rossa which is right near the house and where you'll delight in soaking up the sun by the marine blue sea. If it is diving you are fond of, then the rocky Grotta Perciata, Punta Fanfalo or Il Cavallo are the ideal spots. Not to be missed are the sea caves, many of which are accessible only by boat, such as the Grotta dei Sospiri ("Cave of Sighs"). The nearby islands of Marettimo, Levanzo and the islets of Maraone and Formica are ideal for scuba-diving and the Secca ("Shallows") del Toro at Galeotta are particularly impressive - the area caters for all levels, from beginners to professional divers and each area offers a chance to appreciate the natural underwater wonders of the Egadi Islands. The islands of Marettimo and Levanzo (which we recommend you visit) are easily reachable by hydrofoil from Favignana.
