Summary

Torre Selinus is an aristocratic house built around an ancient watchtower in the territory of Castelvetrano. It is located close to the Archaeological Park of Selinunte and the gorgeous beaches in this area. The property lies at the foot of a hill cultivated with citrus and olive trees and the house is surrounded by palm and cypress trees. This corner of western Sicily is renowned for its production of high-quality, much sought-after extra-virgin oil which is extracted from a variety of olive called the Nocellara del Belice olive from Castelvetrano. Extensive lawns provide a fitting backdrop to the inviting pool and a small pond with papyrus and bamboo. In both the main house and the adjoining guest flat, old and new furniture exist side by side creating a strikingly individual effect.

Property details

This former aristocratic estate is reached down a tree-lined road and the thrill of the past is felt within its walls. The house spreads over two floors; on the ground floor is a spacious living room with fireplace and glorious double doors connecting it to the shady patio which is right opposite the swimming pool. On the same floor is a large dining room, a bathroom and a Sicilian-style kitchen that has preserved a traditional wood burning brick oven. On the first floor, six bedrooms in total. There are four doubles with two having ensuite bathrooms and a terrace with spectacular views over the countryside. There are two twin rooms as well and two additional bathrooms with shower.

Area

The house is immersed in a 10-hectare olive grove that has been producing oil for decades and is very close to the town of Castelvetrano. Just a few kilometres away is one of the most picturesque and history-laden places in Sicily: the ancient remains of Selinunte which is now an archaeological park of great historical interest. Selinunte is situated on the coast near stretches of sandy beaches in what is still a genuinely unspoilt area with sublime views over the sea. Beaches such as the WWF oasis in Torre Salsa and Punta Granitola are partially protected by Environmental groups. The location of this house is ideal as a base for exploring the western side of the island. We highly recommend you visit Trapani's Salt Pans and Paceco, the medieval town of Erice, the theatre and temples in Segesta, the lively town of Sciacca (also famous for its Carnival and thermal baths), Marsala and its historic Wineries such as Florio and Pellegrino. An excursion to San Vito Lo Capo, Makari and the scenic (and unique) Tuna fishery in Scopello are musts too. A little further afield is the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Scala dei Turchi in Realmonte- a pure white rocky cliff overlooking the sea with blindingly white sandy beaches. Another destination not to be missed is the Egadi islands, you will enjoy a day trip to any of the islands but the most renowned is Favignana. Regular daily hydrofoils depart from Trapani's harbour and get you there in about 20 minutes.
