Summary

This ancient and charming house in the Ragusan countryside has been restored to its original beauty thanks to the love and attention to detail of its owners. They have created a corner of paradise in this southerly part of this island just a few kilometres from Chiaramonte Gulfi. The house is surrounded by olive trees and imposing prickly pear cacti. This desirable property is even more intriguing due to the simple and modest work of art it hides: a stone-walled secret vegetable garden that both protects plants from the wind and acts as a courtyard to the
magnificent cellar SPA with its large mosaic-tiled hot tub. All in all, this is a cosy and enchanting place to spend relaxing holidays in an authentic Sicilian atmosphere!

Property details

The property is surrounded by an extensive garden with olive and fig trees. At the front of the house the courtyard faces onto a swimming pool, solarium and lawned area and there's an external bathroom with large shower just by the pool. Opposite the house near the main entrance is the chill-out summerhouse with dining table for six, sofas and armchairs. The main entrance leads to the inviting living room with a double sofa bed and study corner with the dining room off to one side. The stone steps take you to the white-washed walls of the well-equipped kitchen. On the other side of the living room lie the bedrooms consisting of a double, a twin and a single with three-quarter bed and a family bathroom. From the corridor, a small iron spiral staircase takes to the floor below and a small SPA with a large stone bathtub (6x6 metres) clad in mosaic, with jacuzzi and hot water. In this area there is another bathroom with shower. Opposite, the French door gives access to the secret vegetable garden, a hidden spot in the cool and shade, with a large mulberry tree- ideal for reading and meditating!

Area

Area

The house is located to the south-east of the island, in the territory of Chiaramonte Gulfi, a small village in the province of Ragusa with a tiny yet enchanting centre and Baroque masterpieces such as its Cathredral, churches and antique palazzi. It is a pleasure to stroll down its back alleys in the twilight. The village has always been renowned by Sicilians for its pork and home produced cured meats. If it's pork you love then you can't miss a meal at the multi-awarded restaurant “Majore” where pork is the star of all the second courses and you can try their famous “pork jelly” (“gelatina di maiale,” also called “galatina”). A meal in this historic restaurant established in 1896 will be a treasured memory for years to come. The property is an easy drive to all the splendid Sicilian Baroque towns such as Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Noto and Scicli to name just a few. There are many fine beaches in the area too, such as Acate, and the beaches near Marina di Ragusa e.g Playa Grande at the mouth of the river Irminio. The Nature Reserves of Cavagrande del Cassibile and Vendicari are glorious too so don't miss them either.
