Summary

You won't be disappointed by this exceptionally beautiful piece of history. The "Palmento" is set in extensive grounds which are dotted with carob and olive trees and the scent of capers and myrtle is heavenly. The location is enchanting with sweeping views of the fertile hills to all the way to the blue sea. You will be astonished by this fascinating location which feels thrillingly isolated yet so close to town. Once you have caressed the old stones and experienced Sicily at its best you'll never want to leave.

Property details

An excellent refurbishment of an old “Palmento” that dates back to the 19th century where grapes were once crushed to produce wine. At the entrance there's a huge room (97 sq mt) with a living area to one side and a dining area with a table for 10 to the other. The gorgeous exposed stone work and the fabulously luxurious decor combine to create an enchanting interior. Off this room is the kitchen, a bedroom with 2 queen-sized beds (137x191), another bedroom with 1 queen-sized bed (137x191), a bathroom, and a double bedroom with ensuite. All the beds have double mattresses for greater comfort. The villa is fully air-conditioned throughout and there's a TV in each room. In the second section of the main building, there is a romantic self-contained guesthouse with a single and a double bed, airy beamed rooms, polished concrete floors and a tub for a relaxing soak. Close to the pool (30 mt long) there is a small but inviting outbuilding with a double bedroom and bathroom where there's a double shower. In the extensive grounds there are plenty of shady spots for relaxing and a super outdoor table under a carob tree. Next to the beautiful pool and deck area there is an outdoor shower and not far from the main building, a laundry with dryers, cooking facilities and a barbecue. The ruins of the old monastery by the house, that are lit up as night falls adds to the astonishingly charming atmosphere.

Just a few kilometres from the villa there is the lovely Baroque town of Noto with its famous cathedral and fascinating palaces, a triumph of Sicilian Baroque. It's a short drive to the other Baroque towns of south-eastern Sicily too: Ispica, Ragusa Ibla, Palazzolo Acreide, Modica and many others are within easy reach. The area abounds in beautiful, long, sandy beaches and incredible nature reserves such as Vendicari or the mouth of the Irminio river. The beach of “Cala Mosche” in the Vendicari Nature Reserve is not to be missed and the lakes of Cassibile are also well worth a visit (the hike down to the gorges takes about an hour). The local cuisine and wines are excellent and fit for a king, especially in Modica and Palazzolo Acreide.
