Alexander & Margareth

We loved Casa Moresca. The beautiful swimming pool with its charm and the small garden zen were the best surprise for our holiday! Perfect place to relax and enjoy Sicilian nature. Recommended! Alexander and Margareth from London 20 August 2017

Summary

The old Stables of this aristocratic property have been converted into an elegant dwelling that will take your breath away. If you wish to stay in a typically Sicilian countryside environment, surrounded by century-old olive trees you'll find this getaway almost intolerably romantic. Located in the south-west of Sicily, just a few kilometres from the remarkable Archaeological Park of Selinunte with its ancient temples and Greek theatres overlooking the sea. With only a narrow water canal separating Sicily from Africa the property's ethnic atmosphere blends in perfectly.

Property details

An extensive Mediterranean garden surrounds the property and to the western side is a large patio looking onto an enticing infinity pool and a small and idyllic pond. The original look of the old Stables has been enriched and improved by its remodeling instead of being suffocated and its rooms are filled with authentic Sicilian furniture and selected African pieces. At the entrance, the huge living area that was once a horse stable is now an elegant ambience done out in warm and natural materials with super comfortable lounges. Off here, there's a traditional yet well-equipped Sicilian-style kitchen. Up the stone staircase to a gorgeous loft area where the haystacks were once kept, can now be found a small study and a large night area with four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Area

Area

The house is immersed in a 10-hectare olive grove that has been producing oil for decades and it's very close to the town of Castelvetrano. Just a few kilometres away is one of the most picturesque and history-laden places in Sicily: the ancient remains of Selinunte which is now an archaeological park of great historical interest. Selinunte is situated on the coast near stretches of sandy beaches in what is still a genuinely unspoilt area with sublime views over the sea. Beaches such as the WWF oasis in Torre Salsa and Punta Granitola are partially protected by Environmental groups. The location of this house is ideal as a base for exploring all of the western side of the island. We highly recommend you visit Trapani's Salt Pans and Paceco, the medieval town of Erice, the theatre and temples in Segesta, the lively town of Sciacca (also famous for its Carnival and thermal baths), Marsala and its historic Wineries such as Florio and Pellegrino. An excursion to San Vito Lo Capo, Makari and the scenic (and unique) Tuna fishery in Scopello are musts too. A little further afield is the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Scala dei Turchi in Realmonte- a pure white rocky cliff overlooking the sea with blindingly white sandy beaches. Another destination not to be missed is the Egadi islands, you will enjoy a day trip to any of the islands but the most renowned is Favignana. Regular daily hydrofoils depart from Trapani's harbour and get you there in about 20 minutes.
