Modica

Exclusive apartment in one of the oldest areas of Modica. Impressive terrace with views over the Cathedral and Modica. Furnished with taste and care for details. Unforgettable sunsets. Suitable for couples.

However hard you try to imagine or describe this place, it would be difficult to express the sensations you feel when looking out from the large terrace onto San Pietro Cathedral and the most ancient and charming area of Modica. The buildings appear to be gracefully stacked upon one another all the way up the gorge of the town and some of the churches and palaces are simply sumptous. It is hardly by chance that so many artists from all over the world have decided to live in this town. It feels both timeless and authentic and easy to understand why it is a world heritage site and patrimony of UNESCO. A sojourn in Modica means getting a glimpse of the essence of Sicily. It's truly authentic!

Surrounding Area

Modica

If Modica is not on your Sicilian travel itinerary then you will need to change it! It is easy to see why the town is a UNESCO World heritage site; it's quite simply beautiful! Modica’s main street, Corso Umberto is just a few minutes from the house along authentically Sicilian narrow alleys. Apart from the beautiful baroque monuments with their intricate facades, the Corso offers historical trattories, shops and chocolate factories where everything is served with a smile. We recommend a visit to the Bonajuto chocolate factory, the city’s oldest and the best-known and appreciated all over the world for its patisserie and delicious Modica chocolate. Just stepping inside is an experience in itself. The antique shelves and cabinets are stacked with an astonishingly wide range of Sicilian pastries based on ancient Arab recipes including the bold and daring chilly pepper or salt chocolates. Modica is best explored on foot although Urban buses do run to Modica Alta for those who don't fancy the uphill climb. Modica is also a good starting point to the other Sicilian baroque towns such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Palazzolo Acreide and Ispica, all UNESCO sites. If it's natural pursuits you are after, there's the Nature Reserve of Vendicari with its gorgeous beaches (we recommend Cala Mosche) and Cavagrande del Cassibile too. The archaeological Park of Syracuse, the island of Ortigia and the small seaside village of Marzamemi are a bit further afield but all make interesting day trips.
