Modica

The town of Modica, which is a UNESCO World heritage site, is considered the symbol of Sicilian baroque. A charming walk in the historical centre with its old houses, meandering lanes and long staircases is a must. The churches do not face onto squares, but onto impressive staircases. Modica, however, has much more to offer than its famous baroque palazzi, monuments and churches; it is such a fascinating and unique place that the traveller can't help falling in love with it at first sight for its exuberance and vitality, its excellent cuisine and for the many highly interesting cultural events. Modica is located at the centre of the Noto Valley, making it an ideal base for visiting the other Baroque cities of Ragusa Ibla, Ispica, Scicli, Noto Siracusa. You can’t miss a trip to the nature reserves of Vendicari with wonderful beaches and Cavagrande del Cassibile and its famous lakes fed by fresh waterfalls of spring water, the naturalist-archaeological site of Pantalica and the numerous wild golden sandy beaches of this stretch of the South-Eastern Sicilian coast.
