The ceramics of Santo Stefano di Camastra

Santo Stefano di Camastra is a town on the provincial seaside road, approx. 50 kilometres east of Cefalù. The town developed thanks to the manual production of Sicilian pottery, and today it is the largest producer on the island. Along the road you will find numerous shops with annexed factories that display their colourful products: plates, cups, jugs, crockery, ornaments, holy water fonts, different kinds of objects, tiles. All decorated with typical Sicilian paintings taken from the island's ancient tradition of painting Sicilian carts, which have become famous worldwide. Much of the pottery is no longer handmade, but there are still small craftsmen who do continue to make high-quality pottery rigorously by hand.
