One of the rarest examples of an historical villa located on the seashore, 100% Sicilian charm and atmosphere. Breathtaking views over the bay of Castellamare. Private access to the beach. Main courtyard in Moroccan Riad style.

This house has a lot to boast but its best feature is undoubtedly the bird's eye view of the sea that is simply stunning. The house is situated on one of the most scenic strips of coast in north-west Sicily, on the promontory of Cala Rossa (so called because of the dark red colour of its rocks), at the mouth of the gulf of Castellamare. There is a sweeping view of the coast all the way to the promontory of San Vito Lo Capo. At sunset, the atmosphere is majestic and in the evening, it's idyllic with the mountain lit up and the flickering lights of the local fishermen’s boat lamps in search of octopus and squid. The interior of the house is also charming, with its Arab touches and pottery throughout reflecting its Arab past and Sicilian traditions. The open-air inner courtyard has a strong resemblance to ancient constructions in North Africa.

Property details

The land around this historical home has been in the owners’ family for generations. The manor house was built in the most panoramic location opposite the sea and is set in two hectares of olive-grove and native Mediterranean plants such as Agave, ficus trees, prickly-pear, lemon, orange, tangerine trees and maritime pines. The grounds enclose terraced areas which make delightful spots for enjoying the shimmering views and the divine sunsets that the house is renowned for. The villa's main entrance leads along a short corridor into the living area where there's a stone fireplace and large windows that make the most of the view. This connects to the dining area which has a table for six (but can fold-out for up to twelve) and the large, sunny Sicilian kitchen that's ideal if you are fond of cooking for lots of people. In this section of the house there are two double bedrooms, one with splendid sea views and ensuite bathroom and a family bathroom too! Off the other side of the living area lies the night area with three large double bedrooms (in one of these a third bed can be added) and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom and the second bathroom has a tub. One of the double bedrooms connects to the inner courtyard while the other two overlook the sea. All the rooms are spacious, bright and air-conditioned.
From the garden you can access the self-contained outbuilding. This pretty cottage has a small living area with upholstered benches, a kitchenette, a double bedroom, a bedroom with two single beds, that can be put together, and two bathrooms. The cottage has its own shady and private patio.
From the house you walk 200 meters along the road leading to the sea and get to a gate with access to a little inlet. The access is reserved to the owners of neighboring villas and a diving club. Some cement steps lead to a fenced platform where you can lie in the sun. There are then 14 steps leading right into the water with two steel pool-style ladders

Surrounding Area

The house sits on the Cala Rossa promontory in Terrasini, about 30 kms to the north-west of Palermo on the way to Trapani. The well-known hotel "Città del Mare" is in the neighbourhood, and the town of Terrasini that is hugely popular in the summer is just two kilometres away - this buzzing town has good pubs, restaurants, pizzerie and bars. The house is also an ideal starting point for a visit to many of the tourist locations in western Sicily such as Erice, the Salt Pans of Trapani and Paceco, Mozia and Selinunte’s Archaeological Park. If it's outdoor pursuits you are fond of then you can't miss Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve near Scopello that are ideal for bathing and hiking and the splendid beach of San Vito lo Capo. Terrasini is not far from the airports of Palermo (10-minute drive) and Trapani (30-minute drive) so Palermo and Monreale are within easy reach. A bit further afield are the splendid Egadi Islands (Marettimo, Favignana and Levanzo) which are about a 30-minute hydrofoil trip from Trapani's port.
