Granfonte is a monumental public fountain located in the heart of Sicily in the municipality of Leonforte and district of Enna. Built in Renaissance-Baroque style, the structure was completed in 1651 by Prince Branciforti on the ruins of an ancient Arabic fountain destined to supply fresh spring water to men and animals of the village. The fountain extends for 24 meters and it is composed by 24 bronze spouts. In the facade are visible 22 bottomless niches with round arches which stand out on the underlying village giving you a marvellous play of lights when the sun hits them. In the front of the structure you can also find sculpures of mascarons and putti.
Granfonte is not the only reason to visit Leonforte: the village embodies the rural essence of Sicily and preserves numerous artistic treasures of the neoclassical and Baroque periods. You may stay in and enjoy one of our breathtaking villas on the coastline of Cefalù just under one hour and a half away from this wonderful site.
Leonforte is a small Medieval village which gently unfurls on a cosy cliff pleasant to visit and discover. The hamlet is far away from the ususal turistic attractions for the sole purpose to offer you the truest and most profound essence of Sicily. Leonforte is located in an isolated area, but it can be easily reached from Cefalù on the West and from Catania on the East making this a wonderful day trip.
