Novara di Sicilia is a municipality in the province of Messina and has 1171 inhabitants on a territory that extends for about 49 km². The same name carries with it the signs of the different peoples, of the different cultures and traditions that have inhabited the place over the centuries.

The term “Noa”, a word of Sican origin, means “fallow” and indicated the conspicuous production of wheat that characterized the territory during the Greek colonization. With the Romans it became Novalia (wheat field) and with the Arabs Nouah (flower garden, to indicate the beauty and fertility of the territory), up to Nucaria in the Middle Ages, Noara, Nuarra in Sicilian and Novara today.
