Siracusa

This romantic little abode is just 20 mts from the "Porta Marina" gateway to the historical Ortigia which is special for many reasons, first and foremost for the bizarre Palazzo Impellizzeri that's lined with faces. The view of the harbour from the house and the fine fabrics and furnishings allow you to savour every moment of your time in Sicily.

This recently restored little building with its calming sea views, dates back to the 1800s and is right opposite the Marina in the heart of Ortigia. It is ideally located for riding or strolling around the picturesque alleys and tight-knit lanes and you will be enchanted by both the romantically crumbling or lovingly restored Baroque palaces and churches. Historical beauty is not its only asset though; there's fabulous food, lively night spots and the magical colours of the sunset on the sea.

Property details

This outstandingly smart apartment with views of the sea, spreads over 3 floors. On the ground floor, stepping inside there's a formal entrance with fold-out double bed couch, a bathroom and a small laundry. Up the stairs to the first floor where the double bedroom features warm, neutral colours, fine linen and draped fabric. The balcony and glorious picture window here make the most of the view of the boats moored in the Marina. Upstairs on the second storey there's the open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, a dining corner with table for 4, a comfortable couch and more spectacular views of Siracusa's Porto Grande. The interesting paintings that adorn the walls fit happily alongside the shiny antique marble floors.

Surrounding Area

Siracusa

At one point or another in our lives we all deserve to stay in a place like Ortigia Marina. It is not only an ideal place for seeing Ortigia but also for exploring the Archeological Park of Siracusa as well as the Greek Theatre in Siracuse which is one of the most impressive theatres in the Greek world and one of Sicily's most visited attractions. If you are lucky enough to be visiting between mid May and the end of June, you may witness it when it's transformed into a buzzing hive of dramatic activily, just as it was 2,500 years ago. There are loads of other places to see and things to do in the area as well. You can't miss a trip to the authentically Sicilian town of Modica with its winding alleys, intricate facades and delicious chocolate. It's also an ideal starting point to the other Sicilian baroque towns such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Palazzolo Acreide, Modica and Ispica, all UNESCO sites. If it's natural pursuits you are after, then there's the Nature Reserve of Vendicari with its gorgeous beaches (we recommend Cala Mosche) and Cavagrande del Cassibile too where a walk down to the spectacular gorge takes about an hour. The small seaside village of Marzamemi is well worth visiting too. Further afield to the north you may wish to visit Catania and Europe's largest and most active volcano-Etna as well as Sicily's legendary resort town, Taormina.
