    Surrounding Area

The strategic position of Villa Ghadir allows to reach the nearby beaches of Torre Faro and Mortelle, and to visit some of the most stunning areas of the Tyrrhenian and eastern coastline of Sicily, from Cefalù to Tindari as far as Taormina and the Etna Vulcano, Catania and Syracuse.
Ganzirri is an old fishing village located on the north-eastern tip of Sicily near Messina, on the banks of two characteristic brackish lakes, Faro and Ganzirri. The lakes, which are set up by local fishermen to farm seafood in autumn, are an ideal calling place along the migratory route of herons, cormorants and other species of migratory birds. From Capo Faro, Sicily is just 3 km from the continent: the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea meet here and generate such strong currents and vortexes that the sailors of ancient Greece imagined the existence of Scilla and Cariddi, mythological monsters able to sink the strongest sailing ships of the time. Messina stands a short distance away, at the foot of the Peloritani Mountains; the city watches over the strait travelled night and day by ferries and the boats of the fishermen who with age-old knowledge continue to dedicate themselves to tuna and sword-fishing. The Norman Cathedral (1197 A.D.), the Chiesa dei Catalani and other magnificent monuments are all worth visiting.
