Surrounding Area

Scopello

The nearby Zingaro Reserve (2.9 km away) is a nature reserve that stretches along the north-west coast of Sicily, all the way from Scopello to San Vito lo Capo distinguished by the Mediterranean scrub which laps the sea. Along the coast there are inlets and beaches which can be reached along the trails that wind along the route. At the entrance of the reserve there's a car park and an information centre that distributes maps and sells the admission tickets. Within the reserve itself there are two museums and several refreshment stands. Scopello is also well-known for the stunning Tuna fishery of Scopello in use until a few decades ago. It is now a tourist spot which treats you to a unique view of the stacks and you can dive into its crystal clear waters. The age-old and scenic Baglio di Scopello is the heart of the small hamlet with its small souvenir shops, pizzerias, trattorias and ice cream parlours. We recommend day trips to the archaeological parks of Selinunte and Segesta, the medieval town of Erice and the Stagnone Reserve in Marsala. A highly recommended trip is to the nearby Aegadian Islands, Favignana is spectacular. For wine enthusiasts-the area of Marsala and Trapani has many wineries to visit, including the historical ones of Pellegrino, Florio and Donnafugata. A place to visit is San Vito lo Capo which is famous for its long beach of Caribbean colours and for the cous-cous, a typical Arab food. Avoid the beach in the height of summer as it becomes overcrowded, especially at weekends. It is best to go to the other small inlets and beaches of the nearby Macari. Palermo city is 45 minutes away by car.
