Villa Nirvana lived up to its name! We had a wonderful two weeks at the house and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. Lovely little touches like the pastries and drinks on arrival and fresh flowers in the living room signalled a level of care you rarely see in holiday lets. The gardens are spacious, the house is roomy and well appointed and there's the most fabulous pizzeria 300m from the front door. What more could you want!? Having a heated pool was a huge bonus. We had lovely weather for May but it would have been too cold to spend all day in the pool without the heating. If I was to be overcritical the garden could have done with a mow after a week... but I am really splitting hairs. Thank you Massimo, Sangiva and Alessandro May 2017

Firstly, we have to say a huge thank you to our amazing hosts - Massimo, Sanj and Alessandro. They were all very generous with their time and made huge efforts to make us feel welcome. They offered so much more than their home and we were made to feel like very special guests. The home itself is stunning, a massive Italian villa with all the features you could think of. We essentially had four groups (including three couples) share the house and we all felt like we were able to have our own space. The large entertaining areas were great too, with some incredible design features - like the BBQ, which is built from Mt. Etna stone, and the jacuzzi in the pool! It's worth mentioning for visitors from afar that a car is useful so you can drive into Syracuse/Ortigia (10 minutes) and other towns close by like Noto (30-45 minutes); however, your hosts here also offer an airport transfer for a small price if you need and taxi's can take you to the heart of Ortigia (which is normally closed to public traffic) at any time. It's a beautiful house and you'll feel like you're home. If you're staying in Sicily, stay here. September 2016

Area

Area

Villa Nirvana is perfectly positioned in a delightful residential area at the gates of the City of Siracuse. It is an ideal base for exploring the magnificent, historical centre of Ortigia and the Archeological Park of Siracusa as well as the Greek Theatre in Siracuse which is one of the most impressive theatres in the Greek world and one of Sicily's most visited attractions. If you are lucky enough to be visiting between mid May and the end of June, you may witness it when it's transformed into a buzzing hive of dramatic activily, just as it was 2,500 years ago. There are loads of other places to see and things to do in the area as well. You can't miss a trip to the authentically Sicilian town of Modica with its winding alleys, intricate facades and delicious chocolate. It's also an ideal starting point to the other Sicilian baroque towns such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Palazzolo Acreide and Ispica, all UNESCO sites. If it's natural pursuits you are after, then there's the Nature Reserve of Vendicari with its gorgeous beaches (we recommend Cala Mosche) and Cavagrande del Cassibile too where a walk down to the spectacular gorge takes about an hour. The small seaside village of Marzamemi is well worth visiting too. Further afield to the north you may wish to visit Catania and Europe's largest and most active volcano-Etna as well as Sicily's legendary resort town, Taormina.
