Sicily has always been on everyone's lips: an island poised between tradition and innovation, between sun and sea, between past and present. There have been many attempts to describe it, even on our part, as a sweet combination of deep emotions and sensations that have attracted hundreds of national and international tourists for years.

Today, we want to recall how Goethe described it after his arrival in Palermo on April 2, 1787: “I cannot describe in words the vaporous luminosity that floated around the coasts when we arrived in Palermo on a stupendous afternoon. The purity of the contours, the sweetness of the whole, the degrading of the tones, the harmony of the sky, the sea, the earth… whoever has seen them once will never forget them for life.” And if Goethe couldn't find the right words, let alone us!

When I read these words again, many are the images evoked of ravines, corners of paradise, real pearls of the Mediterranean scattered throughout Sicily but today, in particular, we want to tell you about Cala Muletti, in the bay of San Cataldo, famous for the landing of the Angevin fleet in 1314.

This marvellous coastal inlet is located a stone's throw from Palermo, between the towns of Trappeto and Terrasini. The scenery in front of your eyes will be so splendid and unprecedented that it seems almost unbelievable. You will not regret having included it in your itinerary to discover Sicily. Once you arrive at this little gem nestled on the west coast, you will find yourself in front of a WWII bunker. Once passed, you will find yourself at the top of a wonderful staircase: on the left, you can admire the beach of San Cataldo; on the right, among the rocks, the Grotta delle Colombe (cove of volcanic origin). The advice is to walk down the staircase, enjoying the breathtaking view in front of you and ending with an agile dip in the refreshing waters of that sea of a thousand shades that embraces and caresses the promontory.

The cove is located near the village of Terrasini, fairly frequented by tourists in the summer, where there are numerous clubs, restaurants, pizzerias and bars, of good quality. The location is also strategic for visiting all the tourist sites in western Sicily, including Erice, the salt flats of Trapani and Paceco, the Phoenician island of Mozia, the Archaeological park of Selinunte and Segesta, the Zingaro Nature Reserve in the nearby Scopello and the magnificent beaches of San Vito lo Capo. Terrasini is very close to the airports of Palermo (approx. 10 minutes by car) and Trapani (approx. 30 minutes by car). It is also conveniently positioned to visit Palermo and Monreale which can be reached by car in 30 minutes. Among the day-trips we recommend a visit to the Egadi islands (Marettimo, Favignana and Levanzo) which can be reached in 30 minutes by hydrofoil from Trapani. And if you get tired, you can always stay in one of our luxury villas in the area.
