Sicily has always been on everyone's lips: an island poised between tradition and innovation, between sun and sea, between past and present. There have been many attempts to describe it, even on our part, as a sweet combination of deep emotions and sensations that have attracted hundreds of national and international tourists for years.

Today, we want to recall how Goethe described it after his arrival in Palermo on April 2, 1787: “I cannot describe in words the vaporous luminosity that floated around the coasts when we arrived in Palermo on a stupendous afternoon. The purity of the contours, the sweetness of the whole, the degrading of the tones, the harmony of the sky, the sea, the earth… whoever has seen them once will never forget them for life.” And if Goethe couldn't find the right words, let alone us!

And in all this, silently, Sicily once again attracts attention to itself: Agrigento will be the Italian capital of culture in 2025, as proclaimed by Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, thanks to the dossier entitled "The self, the other and the nature. Relations and cultural transformations” and which investigates the relationships between human beings in a perspective of peace with nature.

We are proud to share with you all the reasons that led to the choice of our splendid and rich Agrigento: "Agrigento assumes the relationship between the individual, neighbour and nature as the centre of its candidacy dossier, involving the island of Lampedusa and the municipalities of the province and placing the theme of hospitality and mobility as the fulcrum. The project responds organically to the objective of presenting a program of great interest at a local, national and international level to a vast audience. The rich cultural heritage of the area is the driving force with which the varied cultural offer proposed is enhanced with a view to innovation, promotion and, consequently, subsequent socio-economic development, which finds inspiration in the most modern technological concepts. The active involvement of the younger generations will be able to promote culture as a cornerstone of individual and community growth. The Jury therefore recommends the city of Agrigento for the title of Italian Capital of Culture for the year 2025".
