The Torre Salsa-oriented nature reserve, a protected natural area established in 2000 by the Sicilian Region and managed by WWF Italy, is located in the wonderful province of Agrigento and its coastline extends along the coast for about 6 kilometres from Siculiana to Eraclea Minoa, where cliffs, dunes and beaches alternate.

And for those wishing to explore the surrounding places there is plenty of choice, starting with the nearby Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the Archaeological Park of Selinunte, Sciacca and its Thermal Baths, the salt flats of Trapani and Paceco and the numerous oases and reserves. with beaches in the area including Scala dei Turchi in Realmonte and the Platani River Reserve, as well as the beaches of Eraclea Minoa and Contrada San Giorgio.

The territory of the reserve extends for about 761.62 hectares, of which 300 hectares of private property, showing off an uncontaminated coast and a herbaceous and bushy vegetation which, at times, allows access to the splendid beach consisting of small paths between the rocks.

The sea is crystal clear and the seabed shows off the rich flora and fauna that live there unchallenged. The inaccessible and wonderful nature of the places has helped to preserve this oasis from subdivisions and places it among the most interesting places in Sicily.

Here the WWF, in collaboration with other associations, organises volunteer camps for the protection and safeguarding of the sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and its habitat. There are many activities carried out including cleaning and monitoring the beach, on-site awareness raising on issues of sustainability and environmental protection, monitoring found nests, care and transport of injured turtles to specialised recovery centres and much more.
